I have many Skeleton Key tile sets, and they all are fertile grist for the creative mill, and then I get to bring my creations to like for the cost of paper and a little toner. This particular one was designed for a specific adventure, but the pieces of this mostly integrate seamlessly with his more generic tiles, and as a result, I get all sorts of interesting "dungeon dressing".

Ed Bourelle, you are da man!

?E-Adventure Tiles: The Lair of Vermithraxus? by SkeletonKey Games is a 25 tile pdf that was designed for use with Grim Tales: The Seven Saxons by Bad Axe Games. This set of tiles represents the lair of the dragon Vermithraxus. The ownership of Grim Tales: The Seven Saxons is not required to use or enjoy this product.

This product features 27 tiles (25 for the lair as shown in the module and 2 bonus tiles). The tiles are part of an underground cave system in which a dragon or dragons live. It should be noted that where your dragons can chase the PCs is somewhat limited. There is one 10 tile chamber that could easily be the lair of a colossal dragon. The rest vary in size though there are a number of tunnel sections that are only ten feet wide. Other areas are a PC eating dream come true, it they feature large pits or chasms with narrow slime-covered ledges. One of the greatest things about this set is the sheer abundance of details. We have tiles with lost dragon scales, steam vents, glowing crystals, broken eggs, undamaged eggs, the bones of victims, blood splatters, pooled water, slime, fungi, spores, water bodies. One of my favourite is tile LoV14, which has a blood splatter that looks like the victim might have been torn and dragged in two directions.

Confession: Though I have a number of Ed?s tiles, I have a poor imagination when it comes to using them. But again with this product I?ve been saved because included in the set is a picture of how the tiles should be assembled.

As a crossover product: While reviewing these tiles I also had the pleasure of reviewing Grim Tales: The Seven Saxons. The last half of the module uses the 25 tiles provided in the main set. This was a wonderful addition to that module. It really speed up play that I had 25 tiles ready to go and didn?t have to draw a souless cavern on my battlemap. I think the details on the tiles help make the lair a place where dragons are living.

This is definitely a set to print in colour as some of the details may be overlooked on a black and white map. Find the ink for this set to be colour.

<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Details, details, details. Many good PC killing (read as challenging) areas Map to show us with poor imaginations how to put it together. A must have product for owners of "Grim Tales:The Seven Saxons"<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br><BR>[THIS REVIEW WAS EDITED]<BR>

Although the tiles are thematically linked to the module The Seven Saxons by Bad Axe Games, you don't need the module to get good use out of the tiles. The set contains 25 tiles. Two are just basic cave passages; four fit together to form a slime-covered ledge curving around a large natural pit; two constitute a straight cave passage punctuated by lava vents; four fit together to form a multi-level cave passage; three fit together to form a descent into what looks like a dragon hatchery; and ten of them fit together to form what might be a dragon's lair, a multi-level cave descending into an underground river or lake (the lair also features crystals, lava, mushrooms, and mold). There are also three bonus tiles?two included in the intro PDF, and one available online?including a cave passage that links to a Dungeons of the Dead corridor, a cave segment linking into an alchemist's laboratory (see Dungeon Details Volume 3), and a link between the hatchery into an ice cavern. Even if you don't plan to use the module?as I don't?the tile set gives you some great new settings for underground adventures.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: The variety of different cave tiles, including the bonus links.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: It's all good.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

There are 25 tiles and 3 extra tiles that allow you to link these with the alchemists lab (dungeon details Vol 3), the dungeons of the dead and the ice caves sets.

If you have never bought an e-adventure set then buy this for the large lair - a 80' x 90'arear with multiple levels, water and lava like hazards -sure to be a memorable stage for an epic battle. As for the rest of the set... well as always the art is brilliant but you will need other tile sets to really make use of this beyond its' intended use (with the Grim tales adventure -which I don't actually own) or as a lair for a large creature such as a dragon.

The 15 tiles not dedicated to the lair itself form:

  1. a small section of winding passages (2 tiles)
  2. A larger chasm area with a path round the outside (4 tiles)
  3. A 60' stretch of coridor with several lava pattches in it (2 tiles)
  4. A 24' chasm into which paths lead to and from - you'll just have to figure out how to get across (4 tiles) <br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: I'm really a new commer to the e-tiles but since getting the first few I've become addicted. My group love using them and I intend to but the lot eventually. To me this one represented a ready made Dragons Lair - a beautifully presented piece that will see use in most DnD games in that ubiquitous evil dragon encounter<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Like all of the e-tiles the cost to print can be high and some sets offer a limited range of uses. But if you stick them to foam core board you have a dynamic set of gaming aids that you'll find will inspire some great adventures<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

If you haven't bought any of Ed's tiles yet, this is a good one to start with. Everything you need for a sweet dragon's lair.

A couple of the tiles are a lot like some in other sets, but that is needed to make this a stand alone kit. And the completely new ones are well worth the price!

Buy this, then go buy Seven Saxons to get a cool adventure that goes hand in hand with this set!<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>
