e-Adventure Tiles: Dungeon Details Vol. 1

This set of tiles features the accessories missing from the other dungeon sets. It includes a moldy green cistern that's eight squares in diameter, prison cells that are two squares wide and four squares deep, smaller cells that are just two squares across, a tomb filled with coffins, a spider web four squares in diameter and a variety of webs spanning columns and corridors. There's also a diamond-shaped storage chamber, barracks, study, filthy living quarters, and a lab.

It's unlikely game masters will need all of these accessories and instead need them for only one or two features. Huge cisterns 40 feet across are rare events in dungeons. Prison cells are certainly useful, but the prisons are all very narrow, which means they may not comfortably fit larger humanoids. Coffins are always useful. I purchased this set to flesh out the lair of an aranea and I consider the spider web tiles (five in total) to be the primary reason to buy this set. The humanoid quarters are useful if that's what you need, but they're very specific – while the storage chamber and barracks can be reached by connecting to a single corridor that makes them compatible with most other dungeon sets, the study, filthy quarters, and lab are open rooms that are not self-contained.

This set has limited utility. Buy it for the web, the coffins, and the prisons, but it's unlikely you'll use the other details.

Superb set to add colour and interest to the bland dungeon tiles. Fairly common generic themes in the crypt and stagnant pool areas too. Added to this, connectors to sewer tunnels and narrow caves top off this lovely set.

LIKED: Connectors to the sewer/cave series. This is a nice set. The details sets are all rather specilized and you should make sure you want whatever is in the set or you may be disapointed. This set has a large pool, prison cells, and areas with sarcophagus. It also has some corridors and room corners and middles with webs. It also has five tiles with smaller rooms.

While a detail set, the details are all useful in most dungeons.

LIKED: The cell and sarcophagus tiles are especially nice.

DISLIKED: I wasn't that excited about the five tiles of corridor and room pieces with webs.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied

[THIS REVIEW WAS EDITED]
Add a stagnant cistern, prison cells, tomb, spider web, storage chamber, barracks, study, filthy quarters or a lab to your dungeon tile collection.

LIKED: The cartography is up to the usual very high standard.

DISLIKED: Subject matter wasn't as interesting as I was hoping it would be.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Satisfied
All the e-Adventure tile sets are good, high quality, and great to use.

Some are a bit specialised, but that should be obvious from the title.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
These sets are incredible. They are the best thing to happen to D&D since the d20 system. The also work well with 2nd ed. and compliment the D&D(Star Wars) miniatures very well. Thanks Ed. This has put the spark back in my campaign.

LIKED: Flexability

DISLIKED: Addictive

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
While I liked Cavern Deyails more, this is an excellent addition to the line. Artwork is as crisp and interesting as usual and this expansion lives up to the high rep SKG has been building for itself.

I would like to see a continuation of this line that includes torture rooms, "rooms under construction", and lava tiles...

The first of the Dungeon Details sets is something of a mixed bag for me; technically as usual the graphics are faultless, crisp, clear and detailed. However this set falls down a little when compared to the superior Cave Details set. What I was hoping to see was a lot more of the detail present in the final five tiles of this set; although the cells are very useful and the pool is somewhat useful, the ten tiles allocated to spiderwebs and coffins seems a little excessive, especially as it only leaves 5 tiles for actual detailed rooms/lairs etc (no torture chamber?).

I don't envy Ed the job of picking what will be in each set, it must be a very tough call. Hopefully we will see more of the detailed rooms in future Dungeon Detail sets, but for me personally (sadly) this set was found wanting. Of course this still puts the set way ahead of any of the competition!

This is my favorite set of eAdventure tiles so far. If you have Dungeons 1 and 2, this should be your next purchase. With each new set in this series, it seems, there are more and more great bonus tiles. This is certainly the case here. I HIGHLY recommend this set.
