Ptolus Adventure Maps: The Ghostly Minstrel

Miniatures-scale Ptlous Adventure Maps of prominent locations with Ptolus are also planned by SkeletonKey Games, and the first release was the Ghostly Minstrel, a tavern in the city. Unlike SKG’s e-Adventure Tiles, the Ptolus tiles are not modular; they must be assembled a certain way to create a unique location, but the cobblestones match the cobblestones in e-Adventure Tiles products, so some degree of mixing and matching is possible. Each of the three floors of the tavern is composed of eight tiles. As always with SkeletonKey miniatures-scale tile products, the artwork is excellent. The layout of the Ghostly Minstrel itself is logical, and there is plenty of storage—but a distinct lack of a privy.

I have now used The Ghostly Minstrel in both my digital game and my live game; it was fantastic in both instances. The images piece together in digital form effortlessly, and one thing that I don't think is obvious when you look at these files at first is just how BIG a floor looks when it is all put together. Maybe I'm just slow, but I didn't appreciate the impact a ~20x28 full-color layout of the main floor would have on atmosphere for our game, even when there's no pressing need for a battle-scaled map!

The layout is interesting and manages to avoid the tedium that you might expect from what is, after all, a gigantic tavern/inn. I'm a fan of Skeleton Key's line in general, but as "home base" for the Delving community in Ptolus, this map is particularly useful. I highly recommend it.

Excellent product. The map is gorgeous and brings a certain ambiance at the game table. This map is usable may be used to represent any large inn of a fantasy city, which makes it the perfect companion of any DM running games with miniatures.

FANTASTIC! This is what I call an Inn! Detail is eyepopping (perhaps too eye-popping - the Ghostly Minstrel must have a full time cleaning staff everything is so neat and today, some dirt would have been welcome) and although the set doesn't technically fit in with the Adventure Town series, the exterior floor is the same so it's not hard to match them up. Just need some stores or other buildings to put next to the Inn now :)

LIKED: Multiple floors, guest rooms, common rooms - all the things I felt were missing from the AT: Taverns set (I would still love to see a mod for that bringing in stairs and upper floors using the square tile format).

DISLIKED: Nothing - this is great!

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
