Shattered Peace - The War for Terra Nova Book 1

The new units in the book, the CEF's Stealth Frames and Eden's GOLEMS, are very nice additions and the scenarios seem to be one the whole very good. I wish there had been new models for other factions, but we'll have to wait until the next module for that. The campaign system is also interesting and adds a new dimension to the game, though I personally could have used some examples and more details. It must be said that the system(s) suggested allow for a large degree of freedom for player to personalize the campaign to fit their own tastes. I have to say, however, that at $20 for 54 pages of material (including some blank forms at the end), this book is seriously overpriced. ... [read full review]

Children of Lilith

I've purchased several of the Tribe 8 pdfs, and own a large number of the print books as well. The setting is awesome - it's inventive, interesting, and well-written. Unfortunately the scans of the books do not do them justice - almost all of the pdfs I've purchased contain crook pages, artifacts (like slightly blurry text), and resolutions that just border on acceptable. The material is awesome...it's too bad they skimped on the pdfs.

The material in the book, like most of the Tribe 8 books, is great. The problem is that the scan is quite poor - pages are crooked, warped (i.e., the text is skewed or slightly smeared), and there are various glitches and artifacts visible (e.g., hair lines down the pages). The scan resolution is acceptable but could be a lot better. For $8 you might be getting your money's worth, but I definitely wouldn't pay anything more.

I like this magazine because I cant find it in print anymore. I had been looking for a copy of the rules to play a large scale battle with some of my mekton z, and gundam models. (6-8" tall plastic models kits) I remember reading about these rules in this mag a few years ago. I am glad I found it again on RPGNOW. This is not the only gem in the mag, if you like mecha you will find something to use in this issue.

Black Talon - Return to Cat's Eye

This is an awesome continuation of the HeavyGear story and expansion for the miniature game. After 3 (nealy 4) editions the next chapter of the story of TerraNova can be and is being told. This book is packed with wonderful detail (and striking art) of the new events and factions that shape the story. On the game side; 3 new armies are presented in full detail and newly organized datacards are given for EVERY unit in the game. This book is a Must for any HeavyGear fan whether they play the miniature game, role playing game, or just love the rich world DreamPod9 has created. ... [read full review]

Black Talon - Return to Cat's Eye
by Patrick St-Amand [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/17/2009 05:03:02

This is a very good book. The new factions, Caprice (insect-like walkers called "Mounts"), the CEF (with hovertanks and fast-hitting Frames) and the Black Talons (Elite Terra Novan guerillas), are all very neat and well described. Overall, the new rules are a nice addition. An important section of the book is taken up by a major advance to the Heavy Gear storyline, which is mostly good except for some weird moments that seen lifted straight out of bad anime. On of my only gripes is that the quality of the art is very uneven, and does not match the high standards set by previous Heavy Gear books. ... [read full review]

Great miniatures rules addition. There are several new factions. There is also lots of updated background on Caprice, the CEF / NEC, the Black Talon program, and to a lesser extent other colonies. The timeline is revised (obsoleting old storybooks) and updated through TN 1950, at which starts (SPOILER) the invasion of Terra Nova by the CEF.

I have to agree with the other reviewer. The content of this book is GREAT, but the scan is so poor, I thought it was a pirated scan. It really is that bad. Some pages are unreadable. I contacted Drivethrurpg, and they said they would contact DP9 and request a rescan, however, I contacted DP9 and they said it was a scan done by Drivethrurpg. There would only be original electronic files for NEW products. Save your money, buy the hardcopy. The rating is for the scan quality alone.

The content of this book is great, and if the scan was good, I would have given it a MUCH higher rating. As it is, there are some pages I can't read! If you can find the hardcopy, get that. The scan really is that bad. The rating is strictly for the scan quality.
