Oubliette of Fort Iron

When Fort Iron was taken from the duergar who inhabited it, much of their subterranean quarters were never fully explored. An ancient oubliette has been discovered and its contents have disturbed the miners. Can the mine and the miners be saved from the dangers of the Oubliette of Fort Iron?

A two-hour adventure for 1st-4th level characters.

DDEX2-11 5E

We (Wizards) recognize that some of the legacy content available on this website does not reflect the values of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise today. Some older content may reflect ethnic, racial, and gender prejudice that were commonplace in American society at that time. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. This content is presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. Dungeons & Dragons teaches that diversity is a strength, and we strive to make our D&D products as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This part of our work will never end.

DM ran us through this, absolutely loved it. Short and sweet, swift combats, lots of fun skill checks that encouraged us players to do/think more. What I consider a quintessential DnD experience.

Not that I expect that this will ever get updated, but in case it does, it features the following typos.
* p2, Introduction, "Welcome to Cloaks and Shadows", should read "Welcome to Oubliette of Fort Iron". (Clearly a copy and paste from the previous module.)
* p6, "Friends of Zor Gos" - Incorrectly states that players of DDEX2-5 Flames of Kythorn have met Garwyl Gos. They have (probably) not - they have met his uncle, Faltyn, and/or his brother Andrik. Garwyl first turns up in Breath of the Yellow Rose.
* p11, "Investigation (Investigation)" should probably read "Intelligence (Investigation)".

Not technically an error, but Elisande's goat wasn't described as black in "Shadows Over The Moonsea", so players who encountered it in that module may not recognise it here if their DM didn't have foreknowledge. Its colour is first mentioned in "Tyranny in Phlan". But yay for making Elisande's dialect a *little* less...See more

Also p15, re: Deep Duerra, "now a dead power who is no longer worshiped in the Faerun" - (a) should be "worshipped" with two Ps; (b) "the Faerun" should either be "Faerun" or "the Forgotten Realms"; (c) with the hindsight of Mordenkainen's, admittedly published after this module, it's clear that Deep Duerra is still an active god among the Duergar in the 5E era.

This is another one of the mods I ran when I had very short notice. The adventure is straight forward enough to drop people into, and fun enough to keep them engaged. The few times I ran this, we alternated between edge of death to crushing everything easily. I think that was more a reflection of the players at the table than the module.

4/5 Stars.
The adventure took almost 3 hours for my group to complete, but we also had 3/6 players that were relatively new to D&D in general. The concept for having the dungeon as a 'living creature' of sorts is a fantastic idea and a few of my party members loved it. They especially enjoyed getting creative with the non-combat puzzles. The monsters were creative as well. The only quarrel I might have with the adventure is the Specter fight halfway through the adventure which 1-shot a party member. The party was attempting to roleplay the situation instead of charge headfirst and the player that died felt quite cheated in the encounter. Great overall adventure despite that though.

Fun adventure and fairly easy to follow - linear dungeon format, but different than most dungeons. The unusual dungeon design makes it a lot of fun. Rollplaying the girl+goat is fun for DMs.

Fun little adventure! It's always fun when the adventurers realize where they've found themselves. Combats have some neat mechanics that make for exciting play without being too dangerous. I wish AL would shy away from awarding uninteresting magic items though. 4.5/5 stars

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
